Marking a milestone

August 2015… Busby’s Bookkeeping Services is born, although with hindsight, it wasn’t the best name to have for an email address.

I had no clients; although, I had a cousin who, rather conveniently for both of us,

was also taking her first brave steps into the world of the self-employed as a hairdresser.  So, within a month, she had the financial back-up she needed, and I had my first client...and an endless supply of haircuts.

In those intervening 10 years, Busby’s has gone from strength to strength, now with over 50 happy clients... well as happy as clients can be when you have to tell them what taxes they owe.

I am pleased to say that a great number of my clients have been with me for many years so I must be doing something right.  We have navigated a pandemic and a cost-of-living crisis; we have had some good times and we’ve faced some tough moments.  But importantly, we have done this together and, hopefully, we will continue to walk these paths together for years to come.

But this is not just a celebration of where I am, it is an acknowledgement of Busby’s beginnings.  An idea thought out around a dining room table, encouraged by the biggest cheerleaders in my life who, each in their own way, have influenced and supported me, and who continue to inspire me even though some are no longer here.

That is the symbolism behind the new logo, wonderfully created by my talented and beautiful daughter to reflect the strength behind the practice.

The humble bee has always been a part of my logo as it represents the hard work and dedication I put into my practice.

But it also represents my husband, staunch ally and best friend, who encouraged me to take the leap of faith into my own practice, and who has continued to be a sounding board whenever necessary.

The new element is the beautiful poppy, long seen as a symbol of remembrance which it is here too as it represents my parents.  It reminds me of all those Monday mornings sitting at their dining table, my Dad always making me a tea in a cup festooned with poppies.  Their decades of business and accounting acumen was a continuous source of knowledge and guidance.

Busby’s would not be where it is today without the unwavering support and counselling of these key individuals.  And on the 10th birthday, it feels fitting to honour them and their respective contributions in this small way.

Here’s to the next 10 years!
